Visiting Vermont's most remote state parks

July 28, 2010

Want to go island hopping like reporter Keagan Harsha did in his story Destination Recreation: Island Hopping?

Camping in Burton, Knight, and Woods Islands costs anywhere from $16 to $27. Most require a two night minimum stay. A ferry does run seven times a day between Kill Kare State Park in St. Albans and Burton Island. The trip takes anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. Knight and Woods Islands are less accessible. If you do not have a boat of your own, you will need to arrange water taxi service. There are two water taxi option, both, operating from Grand Isle County.

  • Driftwood Tours, 802-373-0022
  • Little Cove Marina, 802-373-8253

The easiest access to Knight Island for paddlers is from North Hero. The trip is about 2 miles long, 5.5 miles from Kill Kare State Park.
