Continuing their journey to Afghanistan, Darren Perron and Lance MacKenzie have landed in Kabul. They started their journey in Vermont on Wednesday and took a flight last night from Dubai to Kabul. In Afghanistan they plan to meet up with and tell the stories of several Vermont service men and women. We talked to them this afternoon via SKYPE.

Darren Perron told us, "We're here at Camp Kaia, Kabul, Afghanistan. It's called Camp Kaia because it's next to the Kabul International Airport. We are going to sleep for a few hours, we just had some food here on the military base. Sleep for a few hours and catch an early morning flight, hopefully to Bagram Air Base."

WCAX photographer Lance Mackensie points out the large base walls behind him, "There's a wall to protect soldiers on the base. There's a total sense of security. No one's wearing any protective clothing, there are people in t-shirts and it is very relaxed."

We expect to hear from them again once they reach Bagram-- as we bring the stories of Vermont soldiers back home.
