Essex Junction, Vermont - September 3, 2010
There are opportunities at the Champlain Valley Fair to see craftspeople hard at work.
In the Heritage Village area of the fair several people are demonstrating old-time trades, including blacksmithing.
This is Lewis Riggleman's 17th year at the fair producing fireplace sets and decorative wrought-iron hangers. The Floridian says Vermont is one of his favorite stops of the year.
Riggleman: I've done fairs up and down the East Coast and the market here is better than in a lot of places.
Reporter Jack Thurston: So that tells me that Vermonters have a value placed on handmade goods?
Riggleman: Yes. Yes, they do.
The Heritage Village area is also home to a paper-maker and a chair caner. Nearby, you'll find several Vermont fiber artists.
