Burlington, Vermont - September 28, 2010

The military now says two Vermont National Guard soldiers were wounded in a shooting accident over the weekend.

One of them was Specialist Patrick McElroy, 26, of East Barnet. He was hit in the leg and the abdomen. He's due back stateside this week for treatment and is expected to recover.

The other wounded soldier was Lt. Daniel Durocher of Ohio. He was hit in the foot. He is expected to be fit for duty again soon.

Vermont guard officials in Afghanistan say the shooting is classified as an "unintentional discharge" by another soldier-- not a "friendly-fire" incident as we first reported. Just how the discharge occurred is still under investigation.
