Montpelier, Vermont - October 12, 2010

A suspected burglar is behind bars after Montpelier Police say they caught him red-handed. However, this isn't his first run in with the law.

On Monday, Montpelier Police responded to a burglar alarm at 50 State St. They secured the building and while searching inside, police say they say they found 22-year-old Nicholas Buckalew of Morrisville. Police say he went into three businesses, causing damage in each, and tried to steal $1,800 worth of items. Buckalew was on furlough for a 2006 crime and now he's back behind bars until his December court date.

Back in 2006, a jury found the then-18-year-old Buckalew guilty of grave robbing. Buckalew admitted he removed the head of a cadaver at a local cemetery and brought it to his house with the intention of turning it into a pot smoking apparatus.

Buckalew is now charged with unlawful trespass, felony unlawful mischief, two counts of burglary and two counts of petit larceny.
