Training a dog doesn't have to be tricky.
Jamie Shaw owns The Dog School in Williston and is very familiar with the tricks of the dog training trade. Shaw also runs a kennel out of her Huntington home.
Shaw says she uses positive reinforcement methods to teach dogs to sit, come, lie down, roll over and even do tricks.
"In the beginning I'll use a food treat to do it," Shaw says. "I don't use any corrections, I even try to avoid using the word 'no.'"
Shaw advises people not to use a harsh tone with their animals, but rather speak to them "how you'd want to be spoken to."
