Bass takes N.H. 2nd district

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Republican Charlie Bass, who served six terms in Congress before losing in 2006, has made a comeback.

Bass, of Peterborough, narrowly defeated Democrat Ann McLane Kuster of Hopinkton on Tuesday to regain New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District seat. Bass emphasized he is an experienced, fiscal conservative who has been a strong, independent voice for New Hampshire. He called Kuster an activist for the agenda of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama. When he lost in 2006 to Democrat Paul Hodes, Bass thought he'd never run again. He said the growing federal deficit and his worries about the country's future changed his mind.
