Vt. Guard honors Gov. Douglas

Colchester, Vermont - December 23, 2010

Gov. Jim Douglas became an honorary member of the Vermont National Guard Thursday.

The governor was surprised with the honor by Vermont Adjutant General Michael Dubie.

The guard says Douglas has been a huge supporter of our troops and their families over the last eight years, especially during the deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Everyone knows the last eight years have been a challenge to the men and women of the guard. Indeed for our entire nation, Vermonters have answered the call in high numbers as we always have through the engagements in our nation's history, and the last eight years we've paid a heavy price," said Douglas, R-Vermont.

Many soldiers and their families were on hand Thursday for the ceremony.
