BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The Windham County sheriff who spent much of the last year in Afghanistan as part of the Vermont National Guard is home again and getting ready to go back to work.
Sheriff Keith Clark was re-elected to a second 4-year term in November while serving in Afghanistan.
Clark's wife campaigned for him while he was gone.
Clark was 1 of about 1,500 Vermont guard men and woman who spent about nine months on the ground in Afghanistan. He came home last week.
During Clark's absence, the sheriff's department was managed by Capt. Robert Lakin.
Clark tells the Brattleboro Reformer everyone did a good job while he was away. He says he'll get back to work after the New Year.
