After the fire: Pete's Greens

Burlington, Vermont - March 3, 2011

Pete's Greens is making a comeback. The Craftsbury company is one of the largest vegetable farms in Vermont. It supplies organic vegetables to retail markets and those who pay upfront for a delivery of vegetables and products each week.

But it's main barn was destroyed by fire back in January. The blaze ruined tons of storage crops and their vegetable washing and processing equipment. Two tractors were also burned. The loss is valued at more than half a million dollars. Most of the food and equipment was not insured. The fire also meant five of the farm's eight full-time employees were laid off.

Many community members mobilized to raise money to help the farmer recover from the disaster.
