South Burlington, Vermont - April 19, 2011

An embattled South Burlington police officer has reportedly been placed on paid indefinite leave.

According to the Burlington Free Press, Jack O'Connor has come under fire recently for aggressive tactics used in several drug investigations. Last week a judge also ordered that O'Connor pay a former suspect, the Rev. Rico Diamond, more than $100,000 in attorney fees. Those fees were accrued during a case in which O'Connor seized cash from Diamond during a drug investigation despite the fact that no drugs were found. The cash was not returned for weeks.

City officials declined to comment on exactly why O'Connor has been placed on indefinite leave or if he did so voluntarily.
