Vt. fuel dealers raise money for attack victim

Montpelier, Vermont - April 29, 2011

A Vermont furnace technician who was injured in a brutal attack is making progress at a Boston rehabilitation center.

It happened almost two months ago while 50-year-old Mike Kuligoski was doing work in a customer's basement in St. Johnsbury. The homeowner's son is charged in the attack.

Vermont fuel dealers are reaching out, asking for donations from anyone who wants to help. They say the response has been dramatic, with donations coming from as far away as New Jersey.

"I think a lot of oil heat technicians, propane technicians, anyone who is in that service field understands that it was just a freak occurrence and it could have happened to any of them. Because of that, they have responded in kind with well wishes to a man they didn't even really know," said Matt Cota of the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association.

So far, the association has raised $4,250 toward the VFDA Fuel Dealer Cares Fund.
