ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A multi-year construction project getting under way in St. Johnsbury is one of the largest public improvement projects in the history of the northeastern Vermont town.
Town officials broke ground Friday on a $5.3 million project to replace water and sewer infrastructure on St. Johnsbury's south side. The project is set to take two construction seasons.
The south side effort is the third phase of the four-phase, $15 million infrastructure project, funded largely by federal stimulus money.
The final phase will be on the north side. It will also cost $5 million and last two years minus a winter shutdown.
Town Manager Ralph Nelson tells the Caledonian Record that once the project is complete the town will have installed almost 60,000 feet of water and sewer lines and sidewalks.
