A jury has been selected in the murder trial of an Essex Junction woman charged with killing her niece in 2009.

It took two days of questioning for the defense and prosecution to pick 12 jurors and four alternates who will decide the fate of 31-year-old Latonia Congress. Congress allegedly stabbed 16-year-old Shatavia Alford in the chest after the two had a fight over laundry.

Jurors were asked about their opinions on domestic violence, the validity of an insanity defense and exposure to pretrial publicity.

Opening statements are expected Wednesday morning.
