Flooding has slowed worked on the new Champlain Bridge.
Bridge construction was already two months behind schedule before the flash flooding and the record levels on Lake Champlain. Now the marina where construction of the center arch is to be done is under water.
Transportation officials are optimistic the bridge will be done by its scheduled completion date of October 9.
"And that includes consideration that the flooding has slowed the ability to begin to build the tied arch structures which as you know part of the Les Marina project and that is so flooded at this point that it is difficult for them to move forward at this point," said Richard Weber of the Adirondack Park Agency.
The contractor can work past October 9 without penalty due to the setbacks, but has maintained the extension won't be necessary.
