The Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program is a relatively new push by the federal government to bring food animal veterinarians to under served areas.
Individuals who commit to working for three years in those under served areas can qualify for up to $25,000 in federal loan forgiveness for each year they attend school for up to three years.
Last year Vermont didn't net any new vets from the program. This year there are some changes which the state hopes will result in a more successful crop of applicants.
Vermont State Veterinarian Dr. Kristin Haas explains the program and those changes in this week's 'Everything Animals.'
