BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man is facing up to 15 years in prison for killing another man during a confrontation on a Brattleboro street.

Andrew Sheets, 43, of Brattleboro, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of 26-year-old David Snow of Dummerston.

Sheets' attorney, Kerry DeWolfe, said there were elements of self-defense in the June 2009 incident, but there was enough to question whether Sheets used excessive force so it was in his best interest to take the plea deal.

Witnesses say Sheets and Snow got in a scuffle before the stabbing.

The Brattleboro Reformer says that at an August sentencing, prosecutors are expected to ask that Sheets be given the maximum 15 years in jail. Sheets could ask for one year in jail.
