Hampton, New York - May 30, 2011

A Rutland man is dead following a crash near the Vermont, New York border.

It happened near the intersection of Route 4 and Golf Course Road in Hampton, near the Vermont Welcome Center.

Police say 44-year-old Mary Baptie did not stop at stop sign on Golf Course Road. A car traveling on Route 4 reportedly tried to avoid her car, and slammed head on into another car being driven by 64-year-old Richard Stack. He died from his injuries. Stack's wife suffered numerous broken bones. Two people in the car that hit Stack suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Although Baptie's car wasn't involved in the crash, she was taken to the hospital for a medical condition unrelated to the accident.
