Friends pay tribute to guard veterans on Youtube

Burlington, Vermont – May 30, 2011

Today is a day to remember and honor those men and women of America's military who lost their lives in the line of duty.

One such man is Sgt. Tristan Southworth of Walden.  He was killed last August in Afghanistan in a fire fight.  His unit came under attack during a foot patrol.

Tristan is gone, but certainly not forgotten. His friends have honored his memory by putting together a video to honor his life. We show you some of it now. The video also features other Vermont soldiers who have lost their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Josh Sweet-Paquette wrote and recorded a song at the urging of his friend Vt. guardsman Spc. Brian Smith, which they put to photos on Youtube as a tribute to fallen soldiers including their friend Vt. Guard's Tristan Southworth who died serving in Afghanistan.

Vermont's fallen heroes were honored in a private ceremony at Camp Johnson today including all three National Guard members who died while serving in the war in Afghanistan.

Today all three soldiers names were added to the Vermont Fallen Heroes Memorial in Randolph.
