Former Vt state employee sentenced for embezzlement

Rutland, Vermont - June 30, 2011

A former state employee who took almost a half million dollars from taxpayers will spend nearly three years in prison.

Kathy Lantagne, 47, funneled money from the Department of Children and Families in Newport into bank accounts she and her sister controlled.

She pleaded guilty in March to three federal charges.

Thursday she was sentenced to 33 months in prison.
