Malone crowbar attack going to grand jury

Malone, New York - June 30, 2011

A Plattsburgh, N.Y., man could face attempted murder charges for allegedly beating a Malone man with a crowbar.

On Sunday morning police say Daniel DeCarlo, 28, Brandon Collins, 19, and Todd Knudson, 19, entered Jeffrey Durant's home through an unlocked door. At a felony hearing on Wednesday the Plattsburgh Press-Republican says Knudson told a judge that DeCarlo began hitting the sleeping man in the head with the crowbar. Police believe Durant, 32, was targeted because he's dating DeCarlo's ex-girlfriend.

Prosecutors argued that this was enough evidence for felony charges and the judge agreed to turn the case over to a grand jury.

All three men are still charged with first-degree burglary. Durant has since been released from the hospital.
