Essex Junction, Vermont - July 7, 2011
Cleanup is under way at a church hall in Essex Junction that was destroyed by fire.
The hall was next to the Holy Family Catholic Church near the Five Corners. The fire was caused by a lightning strike during Wednesday's big storms.
Thursday, crews collected what was left of the building and loaded debris into large dumpsters.
The parish's finance team is meeting with church leaders on Monday to figure out what it will take to rebuild.
"There are a lot of good, fond memories that are attached to this building because it was a place for wedding receptions and funeral receptions and a lot of parish dinners," said Father Charles Ranges of the Holy Name and St. Lawrence Church.
The fire left the Holy Family Church without power, but it only suffered minor damage. Sunday mass has been moved for at least the next month to the St. Lawrence Church in Essex.
