Vt. father arrested with kids in car, charged with DUI
South Burlington, Vermont - July 11, 2011
A South Burlington father is in trouble with the law after police say they caught him driving drunk with kids in the car.
State police say they got multiple calls from drivers on Interstate 89 of a car swerving all over the road Sunday afternoon. Police say they later tracked Peter Johnson down at his South Burlington home by running his plates. Police say Johnson's two kids, an 8 and a 5 year old, were getting out of the car when they arrived, and told police they were scared by their dad's driving.
Johnson reportedly came out of his home yelling at police. Troopers say they had to threaten him with a taser to get him under control. Johnson was arrested and police say his blood alcohol content with more than three times the legal limit.
"Through the investigation, it is now determined that he is on probation for previous charges for stalking and domestic violence. He was in violations of conditions of release and was not to be drinking alcohol," said Vermont State Police Sgt. Gary Scott.
Johnson is charged with DUI, careless and negligent operation and reckless endangerment. He's due in court later this month.
