In this edition of Above the Law: embezzlement and defending state statutes in federal court.
Lately, it seems we are reporting on embezzlement cases every other day. And it's happening in state government, town government and private businesses.
One recent case involved Kathy Lantagne. She's going to jail for 3 years for embezzling nearly half a million dollars from the Department of Children and Families in Newport where she worked.
Donald Hewitt pled guilty to stealing $300,000 from the town of Ira where he served as town treasurer.
And prosecutors say 42-year-old Nancy Poirier of Williamstown stole nearly a quarter of a million dollars from Trono Fuels where she worked as a bookkeeper.
Vermont Law School professor Cheryl Hanna appeared on The :30 to talk about embezzlement cases and much more. For more, watch the video.
