Authorities confirm body of missing 11-year old girl found in the CT River
West Stewartstown, New Hampshire -- August 1, 2011
Senior Assistant New Hampshire Attorney General Jane Young confirmed during a news conference that the body of missing 11-year-old New Hampshire girl Celina Cass has been found.
New Hampshire authorities are treating it as a suspicious death, based on what they have seen, said Young. The body was found about 9 a.m. Monday. Further information will be released following an autopsy to determine the cause of death and authorities would not talk further about the discovery until then.
The discovery of the girl's body in the water was about one-quarter mile from where she was last seen, in her home in West Stewartstown home on July 25.
Cass' stepfather, Wendell Noyes, was taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital by ambulance Monday morning.
About three dozen law enforcement officials entered the area earlier Monday morning and the New Hampshire Attorney General was also called to the scene. Reporters were asked to leave the area and the region was blocked off to the public.
