South Burlington police under fire over former corporal O'Connor

Jack O'Connor Jack O'Connor

South Burlington, Vermont -- August 5, 2011

More trouble for South Burlington.

The city is the target of two new lawsuits related to the actions of a former police corporal.

Jack O'Connor was fired from the South Burlington Police Department in June for undisclosed reasons.

But the 9-year veteran has been the center of controversy for several questionable drug searches that he conducted.

In the suits filed Thursday, O'Connor is accused of illegally detaining several suspects. The city and South Burlington Police Chief Trevor Whipple are also named for a failure to properly train and supervise O'Connor.
