Vermont's engineering whiz kids

Burlington, Vermont - August 12, 2011

The International Earth Science Olympiad takes place in a different country every year. It pits teams of exceptional high school students against each other in a competition to solve real world engineering problems.

Next month, students from Vermont, New York and Virginia will travel to Italy to compete in this year's competition.

During field work from the third IESO, students worked in international teams and measured the displacement of the quake. Hailey Burkhart is a recent high school graduate, and she was one of the students who attended the IESO event in Taiwan. She has continued her work from there at the Governor's Institute on Engineering. Tom Tailer is with the Governors Institute on Engineering at the University of Vermont. They both appeared on The :30 to tell us more about the competition.
