BURLINGTON, Vt, (AP) - A federal judge is to hear arguments later this month on a request to unseal search-warrant documents in a raid on the home of a longtime Caledonia County, Vt., police officer.
The Burlington Free Press says a court hearing is set for Aug. 22 in the case stemming from an Aug. 3 raid at the St. Johnsbury home of Phil Ciotti. Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives removed more than 500 guns from Ciotti's home.
Ciotti's lawyer, David Sleigh, is asking a judge to make available all court documents and recordings used in the raid.
Sleigh says federal officials failed to follow the law when they allowed documents to remain sealed after the raid. Prosecutors are expected to oppose Sleigh's motion.
