Concerned that the new Champlain Bridge won't be done in time, organizers of a grand opening celebration are postponing the festivities.
The bridge between West Addison, Vt., and Crown Point, N.Y., is taking shape. The center arch-- under construction in nearby Port Henry-- could be ready for installation by next week. But delays caused by spring flooding mean the contractor might not meet the target opening date of Oct. 9. With that uncertainly, the Lake Champlain Bridge Community has decided to hold off on its celebration plans until next May.
