Burlington, Vermont - September 6, 2011
Fire ripped through a historic office building in downtown Burlington Monday night.
The blaze broke out shortly after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Pearl and North Union streets. The office building was home to a number of dentist and orthodontic offices.
More than 40 firefighters were on scene to fight the 3-alarm fire. Surrounding buildings were also evacuated as a safety precaution.
Hundreds of college students filled the neighborhood to watch fire crews at work.
Crews remained on the scene overnight. Pearl Street was closed between Winooski Avenue and Willard Street early Tuesday morning, but it has since reopened to traffic.
