Men face federal drug charges in Dummerston case

Dummerston, Vermont - September 9, 2011

Two men suspected in a Dummerston killing now face federal drug charges.

Frank Caraballo, 29, and Joshua Makhanda-Lopez, 22, of Massachusetts, are accused of distributing crack cocaine in the Brattleboro area earlier this summer.

Caraballo and Makhanda-Lopez had both faced murder charges in the death of Melissa Barratt. Her body was found in the Dummerston woods on July 29. But the state dismissed those charges and will let federal authorities handle the case.

If convicted on the drug charges, they could face up to 40 years in prison.
