PLAINFIELD, Vt. (AP) - The founder of the New England Holocaust Memorial is being honored by his alma mater, a Vermont college where he graduated in 1959.
Stephan Ross, a Holocaust survivor, will receive the Presidential Award for Activism in a ceremony Sunday at Goddard College, in Plainfield.
A native of Lodz, Poland, Ross was imprisoned by the Nazis at age 8. His parents and six brothers and sisters were killed, but he was liberated from Dachau at 13.
He completed the requirements for a bachelor of arts in sociology at Goddard but didn't go to his graduation.
Goddard's new president, Barbara Vacarr, recently came upon his story and awarded him the diploma.
Ross, a former youth counselor in Boston, will get the award in a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Haybarn Theater.
