Doheny to try again for Congress

Plattsburgh, New York - September 21, 2011

A familiar face from the North Country is running for Congress.

Republican Matt Doheny announced his candidacy Wednesday for New York's 23rd congressional seat.

Doheny lost to incumbent Democrat Bill Owens in a close race last year that included a third-party candidate.

This time around Doheny says he's hoping to sew-up the Republican and Conservative Party nominations to keep it to a two-candidate race.

Doheny says fixing the economy will be his biggest issue. He favors a balanced budget amendment.

His likely opponent, Rep. Bill Owens, says he's not focusing on the 2012 race just yet. Owens says his priority right now is creating jobs.
