Body found in Rutland ID'd as missing man

Rutland, Vermont - September 23, 2011

The body of a man found Thursday near the Mendon Brook in Rutland Town has been positively identified as Michael Gregory Garofano, 24.

Crews have been searching for Garofano since he was swept away during Tropical Storm Irene. He and his father, Michael Joseph Garofano, 55, disappeared during the height of the storm while they checked to see if the reservoir was holding up. The elder Garofano worked for the city of Rutland. His body was recovered the next day.

Friday, the medical examiner was able to positively identify Michael Gregory Garofano through dental records.

A funeral Mass was held for the father and son 12 days after they went missing.
