Nikki Parente joins us with her Cavalier King Charles spaniel to tell us what makes a show dog stand out to the judges.
There is also a dog show on Oct. 8 and 9 at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in Essex. The Champlain Valley Kennel Club is sponsoring the show.
The show features conformation for all breeds and obedience for registered breeds and non registered breeds. On Oct. 7 in the evening there is a match. That is run like a show, but it is a chance to practice for new dogs and/or new handlers.
The event will bring exhibitors from over 35 states and Canada with 100+ breeds competing in conformation, obedience and rally. Spectators can interact with the participants and browse among many unique dog and pet-related concessions. Come shop, meet breeds and breeders, and see some of the nation's finest dogs in competition.
All events are indoors at the Miller Expo Centre, Champlain Valley Exposition, Pearl St. in Essex Junction. Admission: $5 adults, $2 child, under 12 free when accompanied by an adult. There is free parking. Please leave pets at home, non-entered dogs will not be allowed to enter the show.
The club also promotes juniors to handle dogs in events.
