The Vermont Supreme Court will soon have a new justice.
Justice Denise Johnson is retiring. Tuesday, Gov. Peter Shumlin said he's appointing Beth Robinson to fill her position. Robinson is a lawyer who currently works for Shumlin on his legal staff. She pushed for civil unions and then led the charge to pass same-sex marriage. Shumlin says her commitment to equal rights will make her an exceptional justice.
In this edition of Above the Law, Vermont Law School Professor Cheryl Hanna talks about Robinson's appointment and the big cases currently before the Supreme Court.
