Everything Animals: Junior Morgan World Champion Emily Tarr

Everything Animals -- October 24, 2011

Sixteen year-old Emily Tarr joins us for Everything Animals. She won the Morgan Grand National and the Morgan World Championship title in the Junior Exhibitor Hunter Pleasure divisions in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with her horse Mr. Boston.

Emily is a junior at Rice High School and has been riding Morgans since she was 4. She says the competition is fierce. But this year, three weeks before the Championship, Emily was involved in a severe accident and shattered her right shoulder. After a long surgery on September 14, she thought she might not get a chance to take a top ribbon.

The day of the Grand National class, they decided to let her show the horse against 15 other top competitors. Not only did she compete, but she was awarded the first place Grand National Ribbon. The World Championship for the junior riders was held on Saturday morning, October 15, just 4 weeks after screws were put in her shoulder to hold her arm together.
