Sheffield wind project on line

Sheffield, Vermont - October 24, 2011

Vermont's first new commercial wind farm in more than a decade is now producing power.

Sixteen 400-foot turbines tower above a ridge line in Sheffield. The 90-million dollar project will provide 40-megawatts of electricity at peak performance -- enough to power about 14-thousand homes.  Burlington Electric, Vermont Electric Cooperative, and  Washington Electric Coop are buying the power.

Sheffield is the second commercial wind farm in Vermont and produces about seven times more electricity than the Searsburg farm that came online in 1997.
