PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) - Former New Hampshire Congressman Perkins Bass has died at age 99 at his home in Peterborough.
Congressman Charles Bass, who holds the seat his father once held, says his father died peacefully of old age on Tuesday.
Perkins Bass was born in East Walpole, Mass., and served in the New Hampshire House and Senate before being elected to Congress, where he represented New Hampshire's Second District from 1954-1963.
A decorated World War II veteran, Bass was a founding partner in the Manchester law firm Sheehan, Phinney, Bass and Green and practiced there until his election to Congress.
Bass is survived by his second wife, Rosaly, his five children; two stepsons; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration is planned for Nov. 19 at the Monadnock Country Club.
