Vt. receives initial LIHEAP funding, future cuts possible

Burlington, Vermont - November 1, 2011

Vermont is getting its first shot of home heating help from the federal government.

The Obama administration has approved the release of 11-million dollars for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Vermont's Congressional delegation applauded the news, but are pushing for more funds to be released.

Last year Vermont received nearly 26-million dollars over the winter, helping 27-thousand households with their heating bills. But Congress and the President are looking to slash LIHEAP spending this year, even as heating costs are expected to reach record highs.
