Vergennes, Vermont -- November 28, 2011
Vergennes is declaring war on drugs.
The city's police chief says there is a drug trafficking problem in the area, and he has called for a community meeting to discuss the problem.
It will take place this Wednesday at 7 p.m. In St. Peter's Parish Hall on Maple Street.
Chief George Merkel says Vermont has become a lucrative market for drugs in recent years. He says 10 or 15 years ago the problem was primarily centered around cities like Albany, Springfield, Massachusetts, and New york City.
