
Northeast Kingdom -- November 30, 2011
More than 1,000 homes and businesses in the Northeast Kingdom were without power Wednesday morning.
Officials with the Vermont Electric Cooperative say strong winds knocked a tree onto a VEC transmission line in Barton this morning.
More than 1,500 homes in Barton, Orleans, Albany, Glover, Irasburg, Sheffield, and Lyndon are without power at this hour.
Eight schools delayed openings, as did the Ethan Allen Furniture Plant in Orleans. Miller's Run School in Sheffield was closed.
Crews expected to have the lines fixed by 9:30 a.m. Other utilities are also reporting several other wind related outages elsewhere.
