Property taxes not expected to rise

Montpelier, Vermont -- December 2, 2011

Property taxes aren't expected to rise next year.

Governor Shumlin is proposing that statewide school property tax rates remain flat because school enrollment numbers are declining.

The tax rate is currently set at 87 cents per 100-dollar value for primary homes. Some homeowners do pay more than that, but only when voters in local communities agree to spend more than the basic per-pupil cost of a little more than 87-hundred dollars for pupil.
