Vermont's congressional delegation announced Friday that Vermont will receive $19.5 million in LIHEAP funding for 2012. LIHEAP is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
The funding level is less than the $26 million Vermont received last year, but more than the $11 million proposed by President Obama.
In a joint statement, Senators Leahy and Sanders and Congressman Welch said it was disappointing news, and will cause hardship for many Vermonters. They said they will continue work to increase the funding level when Congress reconvenes in January.
