Lean red meat could be OK for cholesterol

January 3, 2012

A new study finds red meat might be OK for people trying to lower their cholesterol, as long as the beef is lean.

Researchers at Penn State gave subjects between 4 and 5.5 ounces a day of top round, pot roast or 95-percent lean ground beef.

Compared to the higher fat American diet, the lean beef plan lowered the level of bad cholesterol and cholesterol overall.
