Men's Basketball

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team trailed by four points with a little more than four minutes remaining on Tuesday before the University of New Haven scored its final nine points on free throws to pull away for a 75-65 Northeast-10 Conference win at the Ross Sports Center.

The Purple Knights had their three-game winning streak snapped in slipping to 7-9 overall and 6-6 in the league, while the Chargers are 12-4 and 8-4. Seven of the Purple and Gold's losses have come by 10 points or less.

Sophomore Mike Holton Jr. (Portland, Ore./The Winchendon School) notched game highs of 26 points and six assists for the hosts, shooting 4-of-9 from three-point range, while senior Tom Ward (Brighton, East Sussex, England/Saint Francis [N.Y.]) was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc for 16 points.

Women's Basketball

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Sophomore Cara Deroy (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) netted 18 of her career-high 20 points in the second half, and the Saint Michael's College women's basketball team used a 8-0 run in the final 49.8 seconds to rally past the University of New Haven, 64-57, on Tuesday during a Northeast-10 Conference contest in the Ross Sports Center. The hosts held the Chargers to just seven points in the first 12:33 of the second half.

Now 7-9 overall and 4-8 in the league, the Purple Knights held their eighth straight opponent to 60 points or less, extending their longest such run since early in the 1980-81 season. Saint Michael's snapped a three-game losing streak, while the Chargers, who fell to 2-14 and 2-10, slipped for the eighth straight outing.

Deroy shot 7-of-15 for her 20 points while adding four steals, and senior Coreen Hennessy (Chatham, N.H./Fryeburg Academy) was 3-of-5 from three-point range en route to 15 points and three steals.
