MIDDLESEX, Vt. -- Throughout our region and across the country, college students are returning to school after winter break. That includes Miles Lavine, who is heading back to South Florida after recently completing a truly unique athletic journey.
The Middlesex native is attending grad school at the University of Miami and this past fall played football for the Hurricanes. He saw action in one play of one game, as part of kickoff coverage in a blowout Miami win over Duke on November 5th.
Lavine's road to that moment was an odd one. He was a lacrosse and soccer player at U-32, but always loved football. He attended the University of Vermont, and while there joined the school's new intermural football team. Lavine also played for the semi-pro Vermont Ice Storm before deciding on two things...that he wanted to go to grad school...and that wherever he went to school, he was gonig to try out for the football team.
Once that decision was made, the choice of where to go to school for Lavine was a simple one...The 'U'.
Lavine had been a fan of the University of Miami growning up. Once on campus he joined the team as a walk on and just started working. He kept at it and in this, his second year with the team, Lavine made the travel roster and earned his moment in the sun in that November game against Duke.
