Hubbardton, Vermont - January 23, 2012
A house in Hubbardton was destroyed by Monday morning.
Fire crews were called to the home on Old Ti Road, but they had a hard time getting there because of slippery conditions on the steep hill. Firefighters also had a shortage of water to fight the flames. One person was home at the time, but was not hurt.
"We had to put chains on a couple of trucks. We had some trucks that had to take several tries and I personally had to walk up the hill with an air pack on. What we're going to have to do is set up a rural water supply. Poultney is now helping us do that. They're going to have to go down and find water in a brook or a lake and set up a tanker shuttle," said Castleton Fire Chief Richard Combs.
Fire crews believe the fire started in the center of the home, but haven't yet determined the cause.
