Essex Junction, Vermont - January 24, 2012
The 78th annual Vermont Farm Show is under way in Essex Junction. The new spot is an instant hit.
This year's show boasts more vendors, larger equipment and the latest farming technology. Organizers say they expect attendance to double this year, despite several challenges thrown at farmers during spring flooding and Tropical Storm Irene. As many farmers still struggle to pick up the pieces, they're looking to a brighter future at the farm show.
"The mood is upbeat and we'll know more on Thursday when the dairy farmers are here. So far, it's been very upbeat. And of course Vermont is very resilient. They take care of each other, so the camaraderie is here," said Jon Turmel of the Vermont Farm Show.
The farm show continues through Thursday. Organizers say two months ago they were worried about being able to fill the larger space. Now there's already a waiting list for next year.
