It is National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and several Vermont nonprofits are offering free screenings. Sat., Jan. 28 is Free Screening Day. The exams will be offered at Planned Parenthood centers in Burlington, Rutland and Newport.
About 4,000 women die each year in the U.S. from cervical cancer. And 70 percent of the cases are caused by the human papilloma virus. There is an HPV vaccine.
